IEEE Region 8 Central European Students & Young Professionals Congress 2025 took place in Istanbul

The IEEE Region 8 Central European Students & Young Professionals Congress 2025 (CEuSYP’25) was successfully held on 10–11–12 October 2025 in Istanbul, Turkiye, bringing together young engineers, academics, and professionals from all around the Region 8. Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Turkiye Section, IEEE Istanbul Technical University Student Branch and IEEE Yeditepe University Student Branch, the event hosted over 100 participants representing more than 30 universities across 9 countries.

The congress officially commenced on 10 October 2025 with the opening ceremony. Opening remarks were delivered by:

  • Prof. Nizamettin Aydin – IEEE Türkiye Section Chair
  • Prof. Mustak Yalcin – Istanbul Technical University
  • Ahsan Qamer Sheikh – IEEE Region 8 Young Professionals
  • Ala Chalghaf – IEEE Region 8 Student Activities Committee
  • Alen Babayiğit – CEuSYP 2025 Co-Chair

Speakers emphasized IEEE’s global vision, the responsibilities of young engineers, the strength of student branch collaboration, and the role of volunteering in professional development.

Following the ceremony, the IEEE R8 SAC, IEEE R8 WIE, and IEEE R8 YP keynote sessions explored student engagement, gender inclusion, leadership pathways, and volunteerism across Region 8.

The day concluded with a Poster Session, Multicultural Night & Dinner and an interactive IEEE Bingo Night, strengthening international bonds among delegates.

The second day began with an inspiring talk by Prof. Esref Adali (Istanbul Technical University), who addressed The Logic of Turkish and Its Applications in Computer Science.

This was followed by the IEEE Region 8 WIE Panel, featuring:

  • Hazar Oklah – IEEE Region 8 WIE Committee
  • Dr. Neylan Tokerler – HP Middle East Africa
  • Fay Majid Elhassan – IEEE Region 8 SAC

Panelists discussed women’s leadership in engineering, equal opportunity initiatives, and IEEE WIE’s global efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.

In the afternoon, participants joined the Cultural Istanbul Tour – Bosphorus Tour – Gala Dinner, where they explored the cultural heritage of Istanbul and enjoyed a memorable networking evening along the Bosphorus.

The final day opened with the IEEE R8 SAC Panel, where Oussema Fitouri and Ala Chalghaf discussed student branch collaboration strategies, communication practices, and sustainable volunteer models across Region 8.

The panel was followed by a technical talk by Assoc. Prof. Tuncer Baykas, Vice-Chair of IEEE Turkiye Section, focusing on wireless communication technologies and the role of IEEE standards in shaping modern connectivity.

In parallel with the Technical Talk, the IEEE CS SYP Nano Mentoring Session provided one-on-one mentoring opportunities. Participants received personalized guidance in two key areas: Student Branch Leadership and Student to Young Professional Journey with the mentorship of Ahsan Qamer Sheikh and Alen Babayigit.

The congress concluded with the Closing Ceremony, during which appreciation certificates were presented to the IEEE Region 8 CEuSYP’25 Organizing Committee. A group photo captured the unity and collaborative spirit of CEuSYP’25.
