IEEE ComSoc Student Competition 2021 – DEADLINE EXTENDED

“Communications Technology Changing the World”.
Nelson and I launched and have been chairing this Program since 2013.
I would expect that each Chapter selects a best student to participate to the Competition, to represent its local community in this ComSoc competition.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to 15 September.

The Competition is open to graduate and undergraduate students, who are members of the IEEE Communications Society.
Its purpose is to recognize students or teams of students who demonstrate the capacity to improve the lives of people, through the application of communication technology and the development of projects that meet the human needs of people.

The First Prize consists of $2000 + plaque.
Winner(s) will be invited to receive it at IEEE GLOBECOM 2021, Madrid, Spain, with expenses paid
 (as obvious, if the winner will be allowed to travel there by COVID regulations at the time of the conference).See all details at:

Kadir Has University TUBITAK 1001 Project Graduate Scholarship Announcement

We are looking for M.Sc. students to join our Wireless Communication Research group to work on our project titled “Time-Frequency Spread Sparse Code Multiple Access for Next Generation Communication Systems”, which will be supported within the framework of TÜBİTAK 1001 program and to be carried out at Kadir Has University.

M.Sc. students’ thesis studies will be supervised by Kadir Has University Electrical-Electronics Engineering faculty members Prof. Serhat Erkucuk, Asst. Prof. Tunçer Baykaş and Asst. Prof. Yalçın Şadi , and the students will be supported within the framework of the project for 30 months. With the additional support of Kadir Has University, a monthly scholarship of 4000 TL will be paid to M.Sc. students who will take part in the TÜBİTAK project.

Kadir Has University – Ambeent TUBITAK 2244 Doctoral Scholarship Announcement

We are looking for PhD students to join our Wireless Communication Research group to work on our project titled ‘Development of Next Generation Wi-Fi Technologies’, which is supported within the framework of TÜBİTAK 2244 Industry Doctorate Program and will be carried out in partnership with Kadir Has University – Ambeent.

PhD students’ thesis studies will be supervised by Kadir Has University Electrical-Electronics Engineering faculty members Prof. Erdal Panayırcı, Prof. Serhat Erkucuk and Asst. Prof. Yalçın Şadi, and the students will be supported within the framework of the project for 48 months. At the same time, the students will take an active role in the R&D studies of Ambeent, which carries out national and international projects in this field, under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ergen. After the completion of the Ph.D. degree, the students will have the right to be employed at Ambeent for 36 months.

With the additional support of Kadir Has University, a monthly scholarship of 6000 TL will be paid to doctoral students who will take part in the TÜBİTAK project.

Işık University Faculty of Engineering, as part of its quest to establish a leading research program and to achieve excellence in teaching is looking to expand its faculty to add more depth and variety in its existing programs in its 25th anniversary of foundation. Multiple positions are available to be filled within the next year, with the aim of recruiting world class researchers and educators.

Candidates in electrical and electronics engineering and computer engineering, specializing on wireless networks, 5G/6G and beyond, communication and information theory, analog and mixed signal circuit design, smart-grids, computer networks, edge computing, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and related fields are particularly encouraged to apply.

Prospective candidates must hold a PhD in fields related to the position to which they are applying, and demonstrate a solid track record, in terms of international publications in high-ranking journals in their fields; as well as experience or potential of leading national and international funded research projects. Fully Funded PhD Positions at KAUST

Dear Colleagues,  

I am reaching out to you regarding open positions in Communications & Computing Systems Lab of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The research focus of the CCSL lies in the area of efficient architectures for mobile computing and communications systems. Our philosophy is to employ a multidisciplinary approach to the design and development of mobile systems spanning algorithm design, architecture and implementation. The goal is to simultaneously address two seemingly diverging trends. The first trend is concerned with efficient, high data rate broadband wireless systems driven by continuously expanding networking applications. The second trend is related to lower bit rate, ultra-low power applications, which are finding numerous applications in the context of the internet of things (IoT) such as remote wireless sensing, wearable electronics, sensors etc. At CCSL, our program is architected to identify and research technologies that provide the foundation on which ground breaking innovations capable of serving this wide spectrum of challenges can be conceived, designed and tested.

We are looking for several highly-motivated PhD students with strong analytical and technical background to conduct theoretical and/or experimental research in the following specific topics:

  • Design and provision of next-generation networks for flying cars and cargo drones. 
  • Ultra-low-power wireless transceiver design for the Internet of Bodies (IoB) devices to transform public health and safety services. 
  • Artificial intelligence for e-health.
  • Developing novel machine learning approaches for wireless communications and signal processing problems. 
  • Design and implementation of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces towards sixth generation (6G) wireless networks.

Once students are admitted to KAUST, we grant a fellowship that covers:

  • Full Free Tuition
  • Annual tax-free allowance of $20,000 for MSc students, $24,000 for PhD students before qualifiers, and $30,000 for PhD students after qualifiers.

Tubitak Project: DIstributed Storage, near-optimal COding and Protocol design for data caching through device to device communications in cooperative cellular networks

We are looking for highly-motivated MSc or PhD students with strong technical and coding background (preferably in Matlab and Python) and an interest in network coding, wireless sensor networks, device-to-device communications, protocol design for 5G cellular systems, distributed storage systems and algorithm design to work in our competitive research group. We expect to found fundamental limits on repair bandwidth and storage in cellular systems with maintenance where base stations are used to help the process. We are also planning to find methods, protocols and error correction codes that achieve these bounds. You will be part of a friendly group of five people currently working for the project. Candidates with the following backgrounds are more than welcome to apply: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mathematics. Familiarity with information and coding theory is a huge plus. The project has secured a combination of local and international funding. TUBITAK Project: Development and testing of concurrent algorithms to solve mixed integer linear programming problems in distributed memory systems

There is one graduate student opening for a TUBITAK supported Project entitled “Development and testing of concurrent algorithms to solve mixed integer linear programming problems in distributed memory systems”. We are going to solve MILPs by running heuristics and cutting plane algorithms concurrently in distributed memory systems. The team includes Industrial engineering and Computer engineering faculty members. We are looking for graduate students (Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operation Research) who have ability to code heuristics and/or cutting plane algorithms for MILPs and who have (or want to gain) experience on MILPs, and distributed memory systems. Faculty members have hands-on experience with the project internals as well as implementation. This might be a great opportunity for students to learn from them as well.
